Pricing Policies Investigations
One of the Commission's roles under the
Government Prices Oversight Act 1995
is to investigate and make recommendations of maximum prices which may be charged by government businesses that are monopoly suppliers of goods and services. The intent of the legislation is to protect the consumer from excessive prices arising form monopoly pricing or from the effects of higher costs due to inefficiency of operations.
The Commission has produced a
summary of its investigation procedures
relating to Parts 3 and 4 of the Government Prices Oversight Act. This document does not cover the procedures for
investigations into complaints of breaches of the national competition policy competitive neutrality principles under Part 4B of the GPO Act
, or the procedures adopted in relation to inquiries under Part 4A of the GPO Act.
