Pricing Policies Investigation

In April 1998, the Government Prices Oversight Commission commenced an investigation of the pricing policies of the Hydro-Electric Corporation in regard to the generation, transmission, distribution and retailing of electricty in mainland Tasmania and control of the electricity system.

On 1 July 1998, the responsibility for electricity prices was transferred to the Tasmanian Electricity Regulator and the terms of reference were amended to require the Regulator to determine the maximum prices to be charged by:
  • the Hydro-Electric Corporation for electricity generation and system control;
  • Transend Networks Pty Ltd for transmission services; and
  • Aurora Energy Pty Ltd for distribution and Retail services.
